Cica & Tora's Equipment
We love to take our fur babies on our adventures. If you have been following us on social media you will know our fur babies and not dogs, they are cats. Yes! you read the correctly, we take our cats with us. Whether it be hiking, camping or a weekend in a log cabin; Cica and Tora come with us. Having the correct equipment for Cica and Tora is equally as important as ensuring we have the correct equipment. Their comfort and safety is very important, like us, they have their own home comforts and we make sure we have everything they want and need for a fun and exciting adventure.
What we take when we go hiking
Outdoor Bengal's Houdini harness really is the best harness we have. We tried several different harnesses with Cica but this is the only one she felt comfortable in. The harness is soft and small, Cica hardly knows she has it on. The best thing about this harness is; no matter how much Cica and Tora try, they can not escape the harness. We use the harness in the car, when we go for hikes and around campsite so we always know they are safe.
We never let Cica and Tora wander off when we go out for a hike. They are always on a lead. This is for their safety and our peace of mind. We use a standard short length lead, we always take the long lead with us and swap between the two depending on what landscape we are in. We have tried many different retractable leads, we found the noise irritated Cica and Tora and the lead easily got tangled.
A cat carrier is a must when we go for a hike. Little legs can get tired and we always have the fear of dogs on the loose. The carrier gives Cica and Tora a sense of security and a place for a little nap while we are out in nature. Tha backpack style makes it easy to carry and the straps are comfortable even when Cica and Tora are having a nap - they do have their own backpacks, we don't have them both in the same carrier at the same time.
Like all humans, Cica and Tora love their treats. When hiking it can be difficult to keep them hydrated and ensure they have enough nourishment. We always make sure we take lickable treats because we know no matter how much fun they are having, they will race back for their favourite lickable treat. These treats will also give them a small amount of hydration throughout the hike.
What we take for around camp
Cica and Tora both have a 50FT lead to allow they to roam as free as possible when they come on our adventures with us. It is very important that they can remain safe but also have the freedom to explore. This lead combined with their Outdoor Bengal Houdini harness gives us peace of mind that they are safe to explore without the worry of them escaping.
We spent a lot of time researching water fountains and found this to be the most suitable for Cica and Tora. The water fountain is rechargeable, portable, almost silent and motion sensored. The inbuilt filter allows us to be sure they only get fresh, clean water. The 4 litre capacity provides sufficient water for days, even though we will regularly clean and refill the fountain.
We always take a scratch post with us, not only for Cica and Tora to scratch and play with, but also to allow them to have their daytime snooze. Making sure they have have their usual routine is important for us and them. It will also save us money because the temptation for them to scratch other items is eliminated. You may not believe this, but, they only scratch their posts.....and one arm of our sofa (at home) before they have cuddles.
Cica and Tora are both creatures of habit and routine. Neither of them would be happy if we forgot their blanket or took the wrong one. We have several blankets at home, it has to be the orange teddy blanket. If it's not the orange teddy blanket they don't settle at night time! Night time then becomes playtime and we definitely don't want two naughty torties having the zoomies all night!
